One of my foodie friends highly recommended that I try Cheff Michael Harr’s Food Wine and Co. While visiting family in DC I finally had the chance. Chef Harr who is an alum of Alain Ducasse in NYC opened the casual restaurant rest on a busy strip of Wisconsin Ave in Bethesda about a year ago. His goal was to open a restaurant that has something on the menu for everyone and that does not specifically cater only to the latest dining trends. And you can certainly find something whether you are a carnivore or a pescatarian.
The beet and goat cheese appetizer is a nice way to wet your appetite for what’s to come. I absolutely loved the presentation and combination of nutty, sweet and creamy flavors. The fried artichoke and fresh oysters were also big hits with my party.
Caramelized honey and pepper was a unique marinade on the Pork Blade steak. It really seemed to contribute to the tenderness of the meat while the feta cheese and black pepper added some extra umami. I also thought the scallop risotto was a well-executed seafood entree.
The Apple of My Eye is a sweet way to end the “stick to your ribs” meal. It is a deconstructed version of apple pie with a doughy apple tart, cinnamon sauce, pecans and vanilla ice cream. Even if you’re to full it’s big enough to share so that you can end your meal with some creative comfort food.
Unobtrusive service and the knowledgeable staff who were able to pair our courses with the appropriate wine really contributed to our enjoyment of the meal at Food, Wine & Co and I can’t wait to see what else they have to offer.
